Some days just hit different… and this was one of them.

What started as a simple idea—to celebrate moms in a meaningful, tangible way—turned into something so much bigger than I ever imagined. The turnout for our Mother’s Day Basket event absolutely blew me away ��

From the moment families started walking in, you could feel it… the excitement, the love, the “this is for YOU, Mom” energy ��✨

�� Because Moms Truly Do It All

Let’s be real for a second… moms are superheroes (just without the capes… although honestly, they probably deserve those too ��).

They’re the ones running on little sleep, juggling a million things at once, showing up day after day with love that never runs out.
They’re the glue, the comfort, the chaos coordinators, the memory makers… all wrapped into one incredible human.

This event was about pausing for just a moment and saying:
“We see you. And you deserve this.” ��

✨ The Moment It All Came Together

Watching moms receive their baskets, step in for photos, and just be celebrated… that’s the kind of magic I live for as a photographer.

It wasn’t just about pictures.
It was about connection.
It was about appreciation.
It was about creating a moment they could hold onto forever ��

And let me tell you… there were smiles, there were laughs, and yes… there may have been a few teary eyes (mine included ��).

This weekend is an exciting one for Range & River Photography!

I’ll be setting up a booth at the Billings Home Improvement Show , bringing along some of my favorite Montana landscape photographs to share with the community. Over the past year, I’ve spent countless hours exploring the beauty of this state — from wide open plains to winding rivers and rugged badlands — and this show is a chance to bring those moments into people’s homes.

Montana Photography Prints Available

At the booth, I’ll have a collection of Montana landscape prints available for purchase. Each photograph is printed as a 5x7 image and mounted in an 8x10 matte board, making it easy to frame and display.

Print pricing will be:

These prints are perfect for adding a piece of Montana to your home, office, or as a thoughtful gift.

Billings Summer Family Sessions

I’ll also be booking summer family photo sessions for the Billings community while at the show.

Summer is one of my favorite times for family photography — warm light, long evenings, and beautiful Montana landscapes make for incredible memories.

The Local High School Art Show — supporting young creatives and celebrating the next generation of artists in our community.

The Matthews House Benefit Concert for Friends of Makoshika — capturing a special evening that supports conservation and the incredible natural spaces that make Eastern Montana so unique.

The GCCF Night of Hope Benefit Dinner — an event dedicated to supporting families and individuals facing cancer, and one that means so much to the local community.

This year’s Valentine Mini Sessions were everything I hoped they would be and more.

From the moment the first family walked in, the day was filled with laughter, hugs, and the kind of joyful chaos that photographers secretly love. We captured couples celebrating their love, families documenting this stage of life, and sweet little ones who made the studio come alive.

These mini sessions have become one of my favorite traditions because they perfectly represent what Range & River Photography is all about — connection, community, and preserving moments that pass far too quickly.

Every session booked supports a bigger mission, too. Range & River Photography is built on the belief that small businesses can make a big impact in their communities. Your support allows me to continue donating a portion of sessions to meaningful causes and local organizations.

To everyone who booked, shared posts, told friends, and cheered me on — thank you. You are part of this journey.

Christmas came and went… and here I am at the end of January finally sharing these photos —

and honestly, I kind of love that.

I intentionally waited to post them because so many families use their photos for Christmas cards and gifts, and I didn’t want to be the person who accidentally ruined someone’s holiday surprise by posting them early. Nothing says “Merry Christmas” like already seeing your family photo on Facebook, right? ��

These Christmas mini sessions were such a special experience for me. They were full of little giggles, bundled-up families, and that magical holiday energy that only exists when kids are excited about Christmas and parents are trying to keep outfits clean for five straight minutes.

A huge thank you to Black Sheep Market for collaborating with me and letting me use their space for these sessions. Partnering with local businesses is one of my favorite parts of what I do, and this one was extra special. ��

But beyond the photos themselves, this project had a bigger purpose. A portion of every session went toward supporting the Montana Chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) .

Thanks to everyone who participated, we raised $165 for NAMI Montana .

That means these sessions weren’t just about cute holiday photos — they were about supporting mental health resources right here in our community. That’s something I’m incredibly proud of and something I hope to continue building into future projects.

Photography, for me, isn’t just about pictures. It’s about connection, community, and using creativity to give back when I can. Every family who showed up helped make this more than just a photo shoot — you helped make it meaningful.

So even though it’s now winter-without-Christmas and we’re all probably sick of snow and casseroles…

I wanted to take a moment to look back and say thank you.

Thank you for trusting me with your memories.
Thank you for supporting mental health in Montana.
And thank you for supporting local collaboration with Black Sheep Market.

Christmas might be over —
but the impact of these sessions is still here.

Winter Can Be Hard — And We Need to Talk About It

Winter doesn’t feel the same for everyone.

For some people, it’s cozy. Twinkle lights, warm drinks, slower nights.

For others, winter brings something much heavier — a quiet sadness, exhaustion, loneliness, or a feeling they can’t quite put into words. This is seasonal depression, and it affects far more people than we tend to acknowledge.

Seasonal depression isn’t weakness.
It isn’t “being dramatic.”
And it isn’t something you can fix by telling someone to “look on the bright side.”

For many, it shows up as:

Persistent fatigue, even after rest
Loss of motivation or joy in things that once felt easy
Feeling disconnected from people, even while surrounded by them
Increased anxiety or irritability
Wanting to withdraw or go quiet

And here’s the hardest part: most people hide it really well.

The person who makes everyone laugh might be struggling to get out of bed.
The coworker who never complains might feel completely overwhelmed.
The parent who shows up for everyone else may feel like they’re falling apart inside.

This time of year can amplify everything — stress, grief, financial pressure, family dynamics, expectations, and isolation. And when daylight fades earlier and routines change, it can feel like the world closes in just a little.

That’s why kindness matters so much right now.

Kindness doesn’t have to be big.
It can be checking in on someone who’s gone quiet.
It can be giving grace when someone seems short or distracted.
It can be letting yourself rest without guilt.

Sometimes, kindness is simply saying: “You don’t have to go through this alone.”

At Range & River, mental health awareness isn’t a side note — it’s part of why this business exists. Photography captures moments, but community saves lives. — When we stand together to support education, advocacy, and resources for individuals and families navigating mental health challenges, including seasonal depression, we are supporting each other through our times of need. For some that time of need is during the winter season.

Supporting mental health means normalizing conversations that are often uncomfortable. It means acknowledging that strength and struggle can exist at the same time. And it means recognizing that asking for help is not failure — it’s courage.

You are not broken.
You are not alone.

Well, well, well… look who survived another round of Facebook Hunger Games. ��
That’s right — my Facebook got taken out AGAIN.

At this point, I’m convinced Facebook has a personal vendetta against me. Maybe Mark Zuckerberg just doesn’t like photographers from Montana. Or maybe Facebook simply can’t handle this level of Range & River energy.

Either way…
✨ I’m BACK.
✨ I’m ALIVE.
✨ And I have a NEW page under my actual name — Ash(e) Sunderman.

(Ash for short, because apparently Facebook thinks I run a cult when I go by “Ashlee.”)

So if you’ve been wondering why I suddenly vanished like a Walmart ghost on Black Friday — that’s why.

But the good news?
You cannot keep a determined small-town photographer DOWN. (AGAIN)

I lost the page. (AGAIN)
I rebuilt it. (AGAIN)

I’m basically the Phoenix of Eastern Montana — except instead of rising from ashes, I rise from improperly reviewed community guidelines. ��

The Day My Facebook Died (And Why It Didn’t Kill My Dream)

There are a lot of things I thought might trip me up as a small-business owner.

- Forgetting batteries.
- Montana wind.
- A surprise toddler meltdown five seconds before the “perfect” shot.

What I did not have on my bingo card?

Facebook waking up one day and deciding, “You know what… no,” and taking my business page out at the knees. ��

One minute, Range & River Photography had posts, reviews, messages, months of memories.

The next minute, it was basically: 404: Your life’s work not found.

I panicked.
I questioned everything.
I considered moving to the woods and becoming a hermit with a camera.

But once the initial spiral passed (and the coffee kicked in ☕), I realized something really important:

My dream did not live inside that page.
It lives in me .

Facebook can delete a profile.
It can’t delete:

The families I’ve photographed
The money we’ve raised for local causes
The ways this community has shown up
Or the fire in my gut that says, “Nope. We’re not done here.”

So instead of treating it like the end, I decided to treat it like a very loud, very annoying reset button.

I rebuilt.
I shifted my focus to things no one can just unplug on a Tuesday:

My website (that’s mine)
My email list (also mine)
My blog (hi, you’re here ��)
My real-life relationships in Glendive and beyond

I started asking myself better questions:
Not “What did I lose?”
But: “What can I build that’s deeper, stronger, and more me than a social media page ever was?”

And here’s where you come in.

…you’re helping turn a really discouraging moment into a story about resilience instead.

I’m not sharing this for sympathy. I’m sharing it because:

We don’t talk enough about how hard it is to start over.
We definitely don’t talk enough about how much pressure we put on ourselves to “look successful” online.
And honestly? I want you to know that if your big thing ever crashes and burns, you are still allowed to get back up and try again.

Your worth is not in your following.
Your impact is not in your likes.
And your dream is not living in an app.

So yes, the day my Facebook died hurt.
But it also cleared some space.

Space for better systems.
Deeper roots.
More honest storytelling.
And more ways to connect with you that don’t depend on an algorithm liking me that day.

Range & River didn’t end.
It just changed shape.

And honestly? I think this version is going to be even better. ��

November Donations Supporting Wounded Warrior Project

November is a month dedicated to honoring the service, sacrifice, and strength of our nation’s Veterans and military families. Their courage is what allows us to live freely, love fully, and enjoy the communities we call home. ❤️��

In recognition of National Veterans & Military Families Awareness Month , Range & River Photography will be donating 50 % of all earnings made in November to the Wounded Warrior Project — an organization committed to supporting Veterans through mental health resources, career support, and life-changing programs long after the uniform comes off.

This cause hits close to home for myself — and many more across the country. Behind every servicemember is a family who serves too: spouses holding down the fort, children waiting for hugs to return home, and loved ones navigating hardships not everyone sees.

I have been that daughter, I know the struggles a military family goes through.

This month, we stand with them. ��

Celebrating a Fun-Filled Weekend at Junkapalooza ��

What a weekend it was! Between the laughter, the bustling energy of the crowds, and the incredible support for two amazing causes, this year’s Junkapalooza was a weekend to remember.

We kicked things off Friday night with Ladies’ Night , where we set up our spooky-fun minis photo station. It was such a blast capturing those playful, ghost-with-sunglasses portraits and seeing so many friends come out for a night of memories and good vibes.

On Sunday’s main Junkapalooza day , we decided to step back from running our fall-themed minis station so we wouldn’t take away from the free photo booth generously offered by the Dawson Community College. Instead, we focused on running our raffle table — and wow, what an incredible turnout we had!

Thanks to all of you who participated, we still raised $227 for each cause ($454 Total) :

Who Are We Supporting for August and October 2025?

At Range & River Photography , every click tells a story—and every photo makes a difference. As you may know, half of all profits from my business are donated to causes that matter deeply to me. This fall, I want to shine a little extra light on two causes close to my heart and our community.

For the rest of August and through all of October , the donation half of profits will be equally split between:
�� The Glendive Community Cancer Fund – supporting local families facing cancer with strength and compassion.
�� Suicide Awareness – funding programs and outreach that save lives, break stigma, and remind people they’re not alone.

Why these two? October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month —a time when pink ribbons remind us of the power of research, support, and hope. It’s also the month that holds Suicide Awareness Week , a cause I carry personally and passionately. Both cancer and mental health struggles touch nearly every family at some point, and both deserve our voices, our time, and our help.

The way the light dances across the prairie, the laughter between friends during a family shoot, or the quiet courage in someone’s eyes when they’re stepping into a new chapter of life. Those little details—the real, raw, in-between bits—are where the magic happens.
